An artform that only exists inside the concert hall, that mostly speaks about things from a couple-hundred years ago, and often in foreign languages. Across the country, opera companies struggle to connect with younger and diverse audiences, both in terms of developing patrons, and in recruiting artists to learn and perform the music....

Nothing like seeing a designer take matters into his own hands. Via a social good initiative called Basic Safety Net, designer and artist Brian Singer is raising funds to produce & distribute disaster preparedness guides to San Fransisco residents (beginning with the most economically distressed neighborhoods first), offering key information for what to do pre- and post-disaster. Brian explains the urgency of this project: "We live in a potential disaster zone, we all know this. There are 7 significant fault lines running through the region. And we know the next major quake isn’t a question of IF, it’s a question of WHEN....
I absolutely LOVE this project from Artefact Group – The Tarot Cards of Tech help designers and technologists think through the potential consequences of our work. Too many of us don’t recognize the power and agency we have in this world – we don’t realize that the work we do has serious implications in society. It can be very tricky to foresee the end results of the projects to which we lend our skills. So I am excited to get my hands on this toolkit to help myself and my community think this through....
