08 Apr Salon: Florencia en el Amazonas
Please join me for the first of a series of salons focused on the performing arts – I’m looking forward to having you all in my home this Saturday, April 28, for an informal listening / discussion session. My intention here is to create a space where music lovers (whether you’re a veteran of the classical music scene, a newbie who’s curious and wants to learn more, or you’re anywhere in between) can listen, discuss, and develop a deeper understanding of works that will be performed here locally.
We’ll focus on the opera Florencia en el Amazonas by Mexican composer Daniel Catán. I chose this work because it’s being performed by the Florida Grand Opera – I have tickets to attend on Friday, May 4th and can extend to all of you a discounted rate on very good seats (more on that soon).
So, details for Saturday:
· 6:00PM – 8:00PM (I anticipate that we’ll have about 2 hours of listening and discussion)
· Feel free to bring whatever you like to drink. I’ll have some light snacks for us.
Please email me and confirm if you’re planning to attend! You’re welcome to bring a +1 if you like, just let me know that person’s name and email address so I have them in my list.
Think of this as “book club for the performing arts” – I’ll be facilitating the discussion and providing some background information, but this is an open forum for us to talk through anything and everything related to this work and opera in general. So the more you familiarize yourself with this material, the richer your experience will be.
